As a runner our definition of fun may be different from most folks. Some of my fun runs: running in high heat and humidity, running on the trails when you are knee deep in snow (no snowshoes for this girl), running up to the Tea House at Lake Louise, taking Bob for his first run in the rain and in the snow (he was very giggly), running with the kids through Stony Creek in a torrential downpour and observing them race each other down the path and jump in mud puddles (talk about giggly). Running with Preston, Alexander and Kim…who has more fun than I do? Going out with no expectation of speed and distance…I’ve turned the page!
I love it when I run and the endorphines to kick in. It can be 90° and 90% humidity and I just laugh at the heat and humidity. Hah! hazy hot and humid won’t stop me! Hot August day?…I accept thy challenge!
I am a new runner and am discovering all kinds of things. But you want to hear something weird? When I run my sense of smell is unbelieveable. I can pick up all kinds of smells that I never noticed before and to me that is fun. Sometimes I plan my runs on what scents I might encounter.I call these my scent runs. A meadow with wildflowers, freshly mowed hay, the beach, I even stop at the edge of people’s yards and smell their flowers. Fallen leaves have a nice earthy scent, and even in the winter, the cold and snow have a nice fresh clean scent. And along with the scents comes the scenery that I can only be seen on foot. It can be like running thru a post card. What’s more fun than that???? Imagine running thru….DISNEY WORLD!!!
Ok, I gotta admit to another fun thing I like about running. I like to pump up my arms with weights and then put on a tank top and super short running shorts that really show off my legs and then go running near the beach or a park. Yeah the approving looks and stares are DEFINITLEY fun…..
