I’m trying to catch up on emails that I have neglected for the last couple of days while I was in California and also am waiting for my flight to board for Philadelphia. The airport here is so busy…is this a holiday, there are families everywhere.
My flight left Orange County at 8:30 a.m., that meant a 5:55 a.m. pick up at the hotel. Going through security is getting easier…I now remember to wear slip on shoes, pack all of my lotions and makeup in a plastic bag, take my belt and sweater off and place it in the bin, take out my computer, and show them my insulin pump. Quick as a flash now!
Sidenote: I’m sitting here watching this little girl talk to this grandmother type…who is being so sweet and engaging with her. I parents have their hands full, 16 month old twins and this little girl, maybe 3 years old. Anyway, I am reminded of Supernanny…the parents keep threatening their 3 year old to leave the woman alone, but the 3 year old is not listening and just hanging out with this sweet lady who is actually taking the time to listen and talk with her. I may have done the same thing when the boys were little…I hope I’m a better NuNu to Cooper.
Need to walk around now!

For a few days, for an ASICS Spring 2011 pre-line.
I will not be there for this week’s run on Wednesday in Branford or Thursday in Madison, but I will be back for the soundRUNNER Stony Creek Road Race on Saturday morning.
Should be fun…I hope all who read this can make it!

On September 18 and 19 me and 11 of my “closest” friends drove to Franconia Notch to participate in the 11th annual Reach the Beach Relay. The relay is over 200 miles long (204, I think) and it meanders through the mountains of the Granite State…and it is amazingly beautiful…and finishes at Hampton Beach.
Both Bob and I were in Van #2. We along with Teddy (Theodorable…Mr. Lightning), Patrick (Marathon Sports), Mel (Marathon Sports) and Bridget (Patrick’s wife) ran very respectable legs. Van 1 started at 12 noon on Friday (half way through the 459 starters) and with our combined effort the Runner’s Alley Team ended up in 106th place.
Jeanine Sylvester, owner of Runner’s Alley in NH put this “crazy” group together, never knowing or really caring how fast we would run. Between the 12 of us, 9 women and 3 men we kicked major relay butt!
Can’t wait for next year! Everyone should put this on their calendar…this is a MUST DO!
For information on this relay go to www.rtbrelay.com

| Derek Tratneyk Safety Event 9-27-09 |
|
Summer is a magical time for children…… a time to play outside, go swimming, ride bikes, etc. The first week of summer vacation turned out to be a nightmare for one little Branford boy and his family.
Derek Tratneyk, a recent graduate of second grade at Tisko school was riding his bike with his 2 brothers one sunny day, the week after school was out, when he drove straight into an oncoming car. He ended up breaking his nose, jaw, pelvis, and had 2 plates put in his head. He was in critical condition at Yale for weeks and is now receiving outpatient services at home which includes OT, PT and speech services. He has made incredible progress but still has a long way to go. His recovery will take months.
There has been an account set up at the New Alliance Bank in Branford for donations which will help with medical expenses including hospital stay, outpatient services and dental and orthodontic expenses (he had damage to his teeth including adult teeth).
If you would like to make a donation you may send it to:
New Alliance Bank
1026 Main St.
Branford
Att: Carmen R. Prusinski
For: Derek Tratneyk
The family has been deeply grateful for all the support they have been given during this difficult time.
Many people in the community are planning a Safety Event to be held on September 27th at Hammer Field (or Rec. Department if it rains). There will be activities on bicycle/helmet safety, raffles, food booth, dunk tank with teacher celebrities and many other activities, so please save the date. (See details in next email).
Please feel free to email me (Knelson@branford.k12.ct.us ) if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Kathy Nelson

Alexander Taylor was born 8:21 p.m. on September 16, 1985 in Mesa, AZ. He was my largest child, 8 lbs 15 oz (not as big as Coop, though). It was very hot that day…116 degrees, if I remember correctly. That’s hot!
I am such a lucky mom…he has grown in to such a wonderful, quick witted man.

I am living it up here in Beantown…eating hotdogs, drinking beer…you know the routine. I can smell Fenway from my room!
You guys are on your own with Preston on both Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. He will follow the updated schedule and torture you all in probably much the same way I do…he’ll make me proud, I’m sure!
