I do have a write-up of our Supply Pond run from Jackson, but I need to save it in a word doc/not docx. My laptop does not have the capability to open docx.
I just need to get to soundRunner!
A run in the woods
Today was all about stamina. Throughout the camp we did many activities including, sprints, hill repeats, hill sprints, and just plain running. We came upon many things along our jog. We walked in a stream. The most amazing part was when we came in close encounters of two deer in two different locations. The first one we saw was half in the bushes and half on the track. Even though we made some noise to try and scare it away, it would not even move its head. We then decided to go on the other track. The next deer we saw was crossing a stream and didn’t cause any trouble.

Today, we met at The Pine Orchard Club. We went to Young’s Pond, Sunset Hill, and the beach. Parts of the run were really hard, but everyone did the best of their ability. First, we ran to Young’s Pond for our warm up run. There we went to the back stop on the baseball field and stretched before we did our workout. When we finished our stretching we went through a trail into the woods where we found a circular path. The path went up an incline to flat land and then down a decline. We took this path around for 4 minutes though Julie told us we were going to do it for 8 minutes. When she told us, we were all very surprised. Then, when we left Young’s Pond, we ran to this hill called Sunset Hill. First, we walked up to the top and jogged to the bottom. When we reached the bottom everyone had to run up to the top. Once at the top we would walk half way down and then jogged to the bottom and repeated this again. Some of us repeated this two more times where others one. Once finished, we got water at this house that was for sale, from the nozzle that attaches the hose. Lastly, from Sunset Hill, we ran to the beach. When we got to the beach we took off our sneakers and relaxed our legs in the water. Many wanted to go for a swim though we were not able too. On our way through the beach there was the American Flag where we said the Pledge of Allegiance. When leaving the beach we took some pictures on rocks. When we were done at the beach we headed back to the Club to get some water. Though, it was to late to stretch, hopefully everyone went home and did so, so we are not sore for next weeks runs!

What a great run today with the middle schooler’s. We went to the Supply Pond in Branford and ran up hills, sprinted down straightaways, waded in the water, saw 2 deer, saw Tiny 1 and Tiny 2′s grave “sticks”, and a dog that looked like a stuffed animal.
I have a great picture to post…as soon as Jackson writes his thoughts on the run today! You’re up buddy!

Okay, I admit. I did miss Runner’s Boot Camp this morning. I woke up, it was raining, so I went back to sleep…I feel guilty, but not that guilty!
I have been running everyday for weeks, (I am doing the great rationalization). What, with the Kid’s Camp (M,W,F 9-11 a.m.), RESTART (W,T, 6:30-8 p.m.)…(S 8-9:30 a.m.), Runner’s Boot Camp (T,TH 6:30 a.m.-7:30…I run to the Branford Point and back in addition to the workout). Does anyone feel sorry for me? No! I didn’t think so.
When I coach people, I always tell them to listen to their bodies…they need to figure out when it’s saying ENOUGH…I think I heard that this morning. Can’t wait ’til Thursday at 5:55 a.m.

It’s that time of summer when I start recruiting for volunteers for the soundRunner SeaLegs Shuffle. This race starts and finishes at Jacob’s Beach in Guilford. The 10 Mile course is the CT championship 10 Mile race . It weaves through Sachem’s Head…sorry everyone, it’s not flat. It is however, one of the most beautiful courses on the shoreline.
The 5K meanders a little closer to the beach, and is a great distance for middle schoolers! So, everyone from Julie’s Camp sign up!
Again, looking for volunteers! If you have never volunteered before, think about this race for your first…it takes a lot of volunteers to make a race successful…well maybe JohnB is the key to a successful race!

Don’t forget, you can sign up for the race at either of our soundRunner locations.
The 10 mile race is the CT USATF championship race for that distance. There is also a 5K…3.1 miles…flat and fast.
With both of these runs you get to start and finish at Jacob’s Beach…does it really get any better than that?
Any questions call the stores…Branford, 203.483.8222 or Madison, 203.318.8190.

Today was a big day! The eight of us ran through the center of town to the cemetery next to atty Sandler’s office. We checked out a few things…my favorite is the tree that has grown around the gravestone. We finished our run through town with a water and bathroom break at soundRunner.
Then it was back to BHS for a ladder on the track; 800m, 400m, 200m, 400m, 800m…with a 60 second recovery in between. Then stretched and talked about how to manage and deal with injuries…ITB, plantar…these are smart kids!

On Friday, July 17, 2009, Julie’s Camp ran from Pine Orchard to Stony Creek and back. We ran on the Stony Creek trails and the woods next to the golf course. We went to 4 places: Stony Creek, Stony Creek Nature Trails, Vedder’s Memorial, and a little place called Secret Swing. When we went to Stony Creek, we went to the center of town. We stood by the flag pole and cooled off. The Nature Trails were in a swampy, sticky, and buggy area. At bridges there were little streams.
“Secret” Swing is an attachment to the Nature Trails. The reason why it is called “Secret” Swing is because the paths to it are overgrown with grass. I’ve been going there since I was three. My Mom, my brother and I have picnic lunches there and watch the boats skim around the water.
Lastly, we went to Vedder’s Memorial. It wasn’t really “shown” to the public. A woman Jeannie Vedder donated the land to the Branford Land Trust. If she hadn’t, the town might have built a fancy-shmancy house. Also, there is a huge flag close to the memorial. It is meant to tell boats that they are entering Stony Creek. Fortunately, that is all we did on the 17th. We really enjoyed it. Author, Anneliese Troidle
